I love your description of Kelly - "Better than sex" is right on target when it comes to Kelly!

By the way, did you know THE DEVIL MAKES THREE is now available on DVD from Warner Archive? It can be yours to keep! :-) Or you could check your calendar for November 4th and set up your DVR then, because THE DEVIL MAKES THREE will be on TCM at 4:30 a.m.! Also, if you have Fox Movie Channel, keep an eye on the Fox Movie Channel, as WHAT A WAY TO GO frequently turns up there. Sorry to sound like a commercial, my friend! :-) Thanks for your great comments, Joey; it's always fun to trade movie comments with you here and at your awesome blog THE LAST DRIVE-IN!DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-509497574816685109.post-24834114436528690972012-10-09T16:42:20.051-04:002012-10-09T16:42:20.051-04:00This is such a fabulous post. Heck, if I had my way, I'd also get Pier's former hubby Vic Damone back with his ex, Diahann Carroll. They could've double-dated! You and I should've been matchmakers! Oh well.

Anyway, Vin and I are both pleased you enjoyed our posts about THE DEVIL MAKES THREE and WHAT A WAY TO GO! Yes, that was Jack Lemmon with Shirley MacLaine in IRMA LA DOUCE; an easy mistake to make; no problem! Besides, I thought she was adorable in the wacky black comedy.

TDM3 is worth a look for mostly-non-singing Kelly and Angeli together, as well as the historical (if poignant and sobering) context of the location shooting in the ruins and renovations of post-war Germany and Austria. Take a look at TDM3 when it's on TCM again in early November; I'd love to see what you think of it, my learned friend! :-)

DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-509497574816685109.post-90775647641560933732012-08-29T11:46:16.872-04:002012-08-29T11:46:16.872-04:00P.S. Poor Pier Angeli, if only she'd married James Dean. Don't you think?

But you've intrigued me on this one for sure. Especially the fact that it was shot on location. There were many films done during 50's or late 40's shot in and around a ruined Germany. They all seemed to have the same grim motif and the same grim look. When I think of grim I never think Gene Kelly, but I'm willing to suspend disbelief. Thanks for another great review, kiddo!

Vinnie: I saw this movie in the theater. Yes, I am achingly old. Ha! I thought that Jack Lemmon was in this but maybe I'm thinking of Irma La Douce. Probably.

A fun movie featuring weird ways of death. Until I read your comments about WHAT A WAY TO GO!, I honestly had no idea that it was intended as a star vehicle for Marilyn Monroe. Although the story of Marilyn's real-life troubles is poignant indeed, I enjoyed your wryly witty remark: "assuming she'd been refreshed and revitalized through rehab before filming began." Hope you'll enjoy THE DEVIL MAKES THREE when it turns up on TCM November, too! :-) Many thanks for your comments, Eve, as always!DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-509497574816685109.post-71478799015261170062012-08-27T23:34:07.003-04:002012-08-27T23:34:07.003-04:00Dorian and Vinnie - Not having seen or even heard ...Dorian and Vinnie - Not having seen or even heard of "The Devil Makes Three" until reading this post I can only keep an eye out for it and hope it compares to your entertaining review, Dorian. "What a Way to Go!", on the other hand, I have seen. Knowing as I do now that the film was intended to as a Marilyn Monroe vehicle, I have a different perspective on it than I originally did. Love Shirley, but it seems to me that it could have been a perfect vehicle for Marilyn (assuming she'd been refreshed and revitalized through rehab before filming began). I've certainly missed your reviews.

Where to start? Thanks for making me hungry for Brats! : ( I thought that was a contest or a case of Brats with spicy mustard packets. Guess I'll need a moment to get over that before continuing here. Although I do have some Brats in the freezer so the joke is on you. Missy.

Love your gifs and funny quips! The animated gift of the dancing has my attention right now. It is kind of like the Autoban. Super fast and scary. While in Germany I got the pleasure of experiencing that damn highway and I was scared to death and holding on to the dashboard the entire day.

Can I tell you a little secret? I hate this genre! Yep. my secret is out.

With names like Pinky and Califlower Ear which you pointed out the film has its moments and I appreciate the comic relief. Great actors and a decent strip made it tolerable. Your review is a thousand times more enjoyable than the film though. Let's get that clear.

You've outdone yourself on the info. backstory as usual. A wonderful contribution to the Blogathon. But let this be the last Blogathon where Musicals are front and center. Grrrr Now that I say that someone will come up with the idea to do a Judy Garland Blogathon or something. Ha Ha. It's been enjoyable. in all seriousness.

Off to listen to Ethel Merman sing There's No Business Like Show Business on a loop just to prove that I'm a team player.

See ya later. kids!
PagePagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15063277863578004836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-509497574816685109.post-84421033869650508152012-08-26T11:26:39.400-04:002012-08-26T11:26:39.400-04:00Rick, Vin and I laughed out loud over your bratwur...Rick, Vin and I laughed out loud over your bratwurst gag!
